What this rule requires your agency to do

  • 1The agency must maintain documentation that each home health aide completed at least forty hours of training in the specified subject areas, or passed a competency test as provided under Section 400.497(1), F.S.   • 2The agency must ensure that home health aides who assist with self-administered medication receive a minimum of 2 hours of training (which may be part of the 40-hour training) covering applicable state law, procedures, common medications, and recognition of side effects.   • 3The agency must ensure the practical competency test is administered and evaluated by a registered nurse, or by a licensed practical nurse under the supervision of a registered nurse.   • 4The agency, if using the competency test in lieu of the 40-hour requirement, must administer the Home Health Aide Competency Test (form AHCA 3110-1007, Feb. 2001) and require accurate performance of all 14 practical tasks plus at least 90 of 104 correct written answers.   • 5The agency must ensure home health aides and CNAs receive in-service training each calendar year and maintain current CPR certification from an approved provider such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
