What this rule requires your agency to do
- 1The agency must document competency in the employee file, including a 100% score on the written test, a completed skills checklist, and the trainee's accurate demonstration of the g-tube feeding. (26 TAC § 558.404)(26 TAC § 558.404)
- 2The agency must ensure that any training-and-competency program enabling an unlicensed person to perform g-tube feedings is taught by an RN, physician, physician assistant, or qualified trainer. (26 TAC § 558.404)(26 TAC § 558.404)
- 3The agency must ensure personal assistance services are performed only by an unlicensed person who is at least 18 years of age (or younger if a high school graduate or enrolled in a vocational program) and who has demonstrated competency to perform the assigned tasks. - 4The agency must ensure each aide's supervisor is a licensed nurse or has completed two years of full-time study at an accredited college or university, with one year of full-time supervisory employment in a health care facility substitutable for each required year of college. Section 558.404 sets HCSSA staffing standards for agencies licensed to provide Personal Assistance Services in Texas. It permits unlicensed aides who are at least 18 (or younger if a high school graduate/vocational enrollee) and who have demonstrated competency to perform assigned tasks, sets supervisor qualifications, and imposes a documented training-and-competency program before an unlicensed aide may perform g-tube feedings.
