What this rule requires your agency to do
- 1The provider must not provide or claim, as PCA medication assistance, services consisting only of cueing, prompting, supervision, guiding, or coaching, because such assistance is excluded from covered PCA services. - 2The provider/PCA must limit medication support to physically assisting a member to take medications that are prescribed by a physician and that the member would otherwise self-administer. - 3The provider must not bill the PCA program for medical services (such as physician, pharmacy, or community health center services) that are available from other MassHealth providers, as these are not covered PCA services. Under the MassHealth Personal Care Attendant (PCA) program regulations, medication support by a PCA is limited to physical assistance with self-administered, physician-prescribed medications as one of the covered activities of daily living. PCAs may not independently administer medications, and medical/pharmacy services and mere cueing or supervision are not covered PCA services.
